Cuatro Vientos Station

Last week, the headquarters of the World Youth Day (WYD) Organization Committee hosted a presentation of the initial draft on preparations for the Cuatro Vientos Air Base that will be used during WYD for the celebrations that expect to see a larger number of participants: the Prayer Vigil and the Closing Mass for World Youth Day.

The area in which young people will be located is a space equivalent to 41 soccer fields. There are many details that go into the preparation for an event of this magnitude: lighting, garbage bins, bathrooms, fences, etc., which is why work has already been underway for six months to prepare the Air Base.

The draft covers four key areas: security (access to premises, escape routes); distribution of plots; use of the facilities available; and how to carry out the work in such a manner that the airport can return to its regular activity as soon as possible.

Pilgrim Christmas Gifts

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

A little honesty is needed here, I was checking out other blog sites and found this great idea from Broken Bay “What should WYD11 Pilgrims add to their Christmas wish list – ask people to get you a good ‘Sun smart’ shirt for Christmas, get one that is SPF50+ to save you applying sunscreen every 2 hours in Madrid. You will be burnt to a crisp in Madrid if you insist on wearing singlet tops.”
This is a great idea because when we all go to Madrid it will be from our winter (think Guyra cold to get your mind in the right spot) to the height of Madrid’s summer which will be a lovely dry heat of around 40. So the sun smart shirt is a fantastic idea…..drop a few hints.

New Pilgrimage Itinerary on its way

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

As we are now confirmed in the Archdiocese of Valencia, Harvest has made adjustments to our itinerary. Sylvia is our Harvest consultant and she  is just wonderful in the way she is able to adjust our program quickly and easily. What the changes are, are simple and we are spending less time in Barcelona and more in the fabulous Archdiocese of Valencia. So keep an eye out on the Harvest site for the new plan. The dates don’t change so this will not effect pilgrims planning.

Last Friday 12 November the Armdiale WYD Pilgrimage team met with Fr Peter Slack, Fr Nicholas Maurice, Dr John Graham and Bec and Bec two fabulous youth leaders from the Diocese of Lismore. Both organising groups are confident that there will be no difficulty in filling the 40 places on the pilgrimage. Armidale already have 8 registered pilgrims with 6 more in the process of registering.
